Ship Assistant Operator/Ship Operator Position

Within our company, we have departments:
  • Business development, S&P;
  • Chartering;
  • Operations;
  • Administration.
Because of the size/ number of people it is very important that open communication takes place between the departments and their staff.
Main Duties and Responsibilities 
As a Ship Operator/Assistant Ship Operator YOU will be in charge of all day to day operations for the allocated vessels by the Head of Operations and will have overall responsibility for day to day operation for vessels including but not limited to vessels on Time charter out, Time charter in, Time charter Trips and voyage/spot charters and execute and optimize the vessels P/L;
  • Will monitor the performance of each vessel and optimize the voyage performance, including overlooking loading and discharging, bunkers intake to ensure cost effectiveness of the voyage.
  • Ensure compliance with Charter parties, prepare and provide masters with voyage instructions, liaise with masters and charterers for preparation and maximization of stowage plans,  efficient tank/hold cleaning and supply cleaning chemicals and equipment as needed, arrange Insurances and other items in cooperation with masters, ship managers, H&M and P&I club as required for the voyage and after approval from Head of Operations.
  • Request and scrutinize PDA's and appoint agents and scrutinize FDA's, currently done with close cooperation with DA-Desk;
  • Order bunkers after liaise with chartering department and Master with the approved bunkers brokers used and as per approval from Head of Operations as and when required;
  • Any voyage related and/or unbudgeted purchases and costs to be approved by the Head of Operations or as appropriate by Technical/Commercial department;
  • Handle claims and Charter party disputes/discrepancies and performance, speed/consumption claims etc., deal with insurance companies such as H&M and P&I clubs and liaise with ship managers;
  • Calculate and prepare Hire statements, Invoice and collect freight, hire, demurrage, IMHC and other re-billable expenses, check costs and expenses and overdue payments and outstanding’s in cooperation with accounts department; 
  • Daily update and monitor the vessels schedule and above-mentioned tasks, costs, revenues, and any information as it/they become available and known into the company software, currently IMOS/Veslink;
  • Support and liaise as appropriate with the Commercial and Technical department including but not limited to vessel information, port information/restrictions, C/P clauses, Technical issues and other voyage and business-related information as requested and required;

  • Experience with IMOS or similar VMS advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge and background in Ship operations. 
  • Experience working in a shipping company for at least 2 years in similar position 
  • Good knowledge and understanding of charter parties and shipping terminology
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to details. 
  • Able to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Fluent in English verbally and written and have very good communication skills
  • A degree in shipping logistics and/or seafarer experience advantageous
